Life is unpredictable. One minute you’re sipping tea, the next you’re choking on laughter because your cat just fell into the toilet.
But here’s the truth: Humor is not just the cherry on top of lifeāitās often the glue that holds the whole cake together.
When grief knocked on my door, humor opened it wearing nothing but socks and a sombrero. When failure whispered, “Youāre not good enough,” humor said, āWell, at least youāre not boring!ā
And when love packed up and left, humor moved in with pizza and bad dance moves.
Why Humor Matters:
- It connects us. A shared laugh is the shortest distance between two people. Whether you’re in Tehran, Texas, or Thailand, a giggle breaks the ice faster than any formal introduction.
- It heals us. Laughter is like emotional first aid. It canāt fix everythingābut it makes the bleeding stop long enough for us to breathe again.
- It humbles us. When we laugh at ourselves, we remind the world (and ourselves) that weāre still learning, still human, still okay.
- It lifts us. Life is heavy. Carrying it with humor doesnāt make it less realāit just makes us stronger.
My Rule of Thumb:
If you can’t laugh about it yet… give it time. The pain today could be tomorrow’s best punchline. I knowāIāve been there. Iāve turned immigration into improv, heartbreak into hilarity, and culture shock into stand-up comedy.
In the end…
We donāt laugh because life is easy.
We laugh because weāre still hereāsurviving, thriving, and refusing to let life steal our punchlines.
